Hi Kim, I would be glad to help you in any way that I can. We got regular building permits through our town inspector. They wanted us to have some “proof” that the method was safe and long-lasting so they devised a compaction test for the project. This is a test that is used to determine feasibility of pouring a foundation in certain soils. They decided that the way to test the durability and strength of tire bricks was to run a test on the soil.
The soil we used to pack the tires was submitted to a state soil lab where they compacted the soil in the lab and gave it a certain score. They then came to the field on three occasions to re-test. We needed to score a 95% or greater than the lab score in order to “pass.” On each test we were over the expectation and once over 100%, if that is even possible! I wrote about that in the blog on June 29 2010: http://lizyrose.wordpress.com/2010/06/29/june-29-and-the-tests-reveal/
